PHOTOS: gigantic WWII bomb found in downtown Budapest
A Soviet second world war aerial bomb weighing 100kg has been found in the Danube in central Budapest, a Hungarian Armed Forces spokesman said on Thursday.
The bomb will be removed from the riverbed on Monday, Lieutenant Milán Gajdos of the bomb disposal regiment told MTI. The aerial bomb containing a live detonator was found between Chain Bridge and Elizabeth Bridge by divers of the Budapest Fire Brigade during training exercises, he said. The area within 400m will be closed on Monday morning so that the explosive can be lifted and disposed of safely, the officer said.
